Compensating mats
Compensating mats are mats made of polyethylene foam and designed to decrease the stresses created by thermal displacements, on the arms of Z-shaped and U-shaped compensators. The number and thickness of mats installed on specific sections of the route is determined by the design project depending on the assumed value of the compensator movements and the allowable value of mats compression. In terms of length, at least 2/3 of the compensating arm length must be covered.

Below is the explanation of the marking conventions:
Russian abbr.: Мат компенсационный 2000х1000х40
English abbr.: Compensating mat 2000х1000х40
1) «2000» is the length in mm
2) «1000» is the width in mm
3) «40» is the thickness in mm
The minimum mounting size of a mat is given by the equation L = Dp(ts) + 100, mm
