PUF steel elbows
Remote heating utility installations use steel elbows. These are required to impart different directions to pipelines. Such points are called connection elbows used in pipeline turn points, being important elements of remote heating utility piping. For remote heating utility pipelines, prefabricated PUF-insulated elbows are used, suitable in terms of properties and parameters for the basic tubes.
Prefabricated PUF-insulated steel elbows are manufactured similar to commonly used prefabricated insulated tubes. Two nozzles are welded to a steel elbows, clad with a PE-sheath (PE) or a zink plated sheath (ZP) and fastened with several alignment elements. The annular space between the sheath/cladding is filled with PUR foam. To monitor the humidity and the state of the structure, copper wiring is installed inside and connected to a monitoring and diagnostic system of PUF-insulated elbows.
In modern utility projects, prefabricated PUF-insulated elbows are generally used. Standard elbows angles are 90, 60, 45 and 30 deg. For installation convenience, the elbows can be with both long and short weld ends. The manufacturing of the materials is regulated by the applicable GOST for steel elbows (30732-2020).

The elbow is butt-welded to the basic tube by means of arc welding. Sometimes, prefab PUF-insulated tubes are cut in place for the required length. It is a waste of time and expensive prefab insulation layer. In order to reduce the cutting loss of the prefab PUF-insulated tubes, elbows with short weld ends are often used.
