Pipes for heating of blocks of flats in Kharp Urban Settlement
Pipes for heating of blocks of flats delivered to Kharp Urban Settlement
Earlier, the blocks of flats in Kharp Urban Settlement were supplied by an overground heat supply utility. However, due to temperature drops, UV-light, precipitation and other factors, the utility massively corroded and got unsuitable for operation. The customer prepared a heat supply utility diagram and addressed us with a design of the underground utility in a reinforced concrete channel.
Initial conditions
- climate: moderately continental. The winter is severe and lasts long, that is why it was important to ensure proper piping insulation;
- the underground heat supply utility runs in the vicinity of living buildings, that is why it was vitally important to provide for fire safety of the pipes;
- 948 m heat supply utility length;
- 273х7 mm pipeline diameter.
Heat supply utility configuration provided by the customer
During the configuration development, the designers proposed to the customer two options: hot-drawn seamless steel pipes with insulation of mineral wool mats or PUF PE pipes. The first option has two drawbacks: long installation and high risk of heat losses within the first years even at slight deviations of the processing. In comparison with them, PUF PE pipes:
- are better in terms of fire safety: PUR foam and PE are non-combustible;
- in spite of the fact that the insulation performance gets reduced in the course of the operation, only up to 3% of the heat gets lost, whereas mineral wool loses up to 30%;
- support RRCS. It allows for remote insulation monitoring and timely utility maintenance. It is especially important under recognition of the reduced reinforced concrete channel height, making any repair a problem;
- are tighter than a utility insulated with mineral wool. Polyethylene is resistant to the groundwater, frost, stray currents and other aggressive impacts.
The customer was satisfied with the technical specifications of PUF PE pipes and decided to make them the core material of the entire utility.
Results of the work
At the moment of the contract making, the first batch of the workpiece tubes was available from stock. It allowed for a prompt start of the manufacturing and a fast delivery to the project site. As a result, the Contractor commenced its performance a week before it was actually scheduled. Due to the absence of the in-place insulation mounting procedure, the hydraulic test could be conducted long before the heating season was started.
his order was finished already 3 years ago. Since that time no complaints came from any concerned party. Provided the contractor obeyed all installation rules, no emergencies are anticipated within the coming several decades.
