Failure-free heat supply utility pipes in Orenburg
Failure-free heat supply utility pipes in Orenburg
The last heat supply utility failure in Orenburg occurred in 2016 and resulted in hundreds of thousand rubles losses. Since that time, the Administration of the city is trying to timely repair the heat supply utility piping to avoid unforeseen expenses.
In 2019, we were addressed with a heat supply utility project: an urban community had to be connected to a new heating boiler plant. We were expected to supply reliable tubes and tight isolation thereto, in order to minimize the risk of emergency.
Initial conditions
- type of installation: overground routing. The heat supply utility pipe runs partially along a motor way;
- the climate is moderately continental, with a transition to extremely continental climate. In spring, the weather is unstable: frost occurs even in May. Repeated freezing and thawing negatively influences the pipes, that is why the insulation was a matter of vital importance;
- heat supply utility length – 2,077 m.
Why did the customer select PUF PE pipes?
- These pipes are prefabricated with PUR foam thermal insulation. The material exceeds the mineral wool insulation by 10 times in terms of the heat saving.
- PUR foam insulation has no winter steaming effect inherent to the mineral wool: the snow remains frozen on the pipeline surface, and does not melt. This prevents the build-up of the condensate and the pipe deterioration.
- Under recognition of the overground routing, the heat supply utility had to be protected against mechanical damage, UV light, moisture, wind loads. The robust galvanized steel sheet cladding would cope with those problems.
- They fully comply with all regulatory documents and methodical guides: from the Federal Law "Heat supply" to RD-10-VEP.
Results of the work
We received an order for 1,992 running m of PUF ZP pipes, required components, as well as 85 running meters of PUF PE pipes for underground utility sections. We delivered the order within 14 days since the items were partially available from stock, allowing for pre-mature commencement of the installation.
The customer managed to accomplish the works 2 times faster than initially scheduled with 15% budget saving. It was due to the increased installation simplicity of prefabricated PUF ZP pipes: they are reliably protected against external impacts and do not require additional works. After hydraulic tests and the RRCS functional acceptance, the pipeline was put into operation without any problems. As a result, dozens of buildings were supplied from the new heating boiler plant.
Provided the contractor had observed all installation rules, the Administration of Orenburg could assume 30+ years of operation without a single failure. We were glad to prove the efficiency of PUF ZP pipes in comparison with standard pipes with in-situ insulation for overground heat supply utilities, and we are ready to do it again and again in future.
